Several videos and photos of misbehaving foreign tourists in Bali have recently gone viral on social media. Most recently, a video of a foreign tourist insulting police officers during a raid went viral.
The Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has deported 70 foreign nationals (WNA) from the beginning of January to April 4, 2023. The Head of the Bali Kemenkumham Regional Office, Anggiat Napitupulu, stated that the most deported tourists were from Russia.
"Actually, there's no single majority. But of the 70 people who committed these offenses, there are three categories: overstaying, misuse of immigration permits, and other legal violations," said Anggiat, as quoted by CNN Indonesia, Tuesday (4/4/2023).
Since the virality of several videos and photos related to misbehaving foreign tourists in Bali, the number of foreign tourist visits to Bali has tended to decrease in the last two months, as shown in the graph above.
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 323,623 foreign tourist visits to Bali in February 2023. This figure is down 2.5% compared to January 2023 (month-on-month/mom), which totaled 331,912 visits.
However, compared to the previous year, the number of foreign tourist visits to Bali in February 2023 increased drastically compared to February 2022, which only had 1,310 visits. In February 2021, foreign tourist visits to Bali were only 12 people.
The increase in the number of foreign tourist visits to Bali is due to the government's easing of policies and the revocation of the implementation of community activity restrictions (PPKM) last year.
Based on their transportation, 317,109 foreign tourists (97.99%) visited Bali using air transportation, and 6,514 foreign tourists (2.01%) used sea transportation.
Based on their country of origin, the majority of foreign tourists visiting Bali were from Australia, with 79,100 visits (24.44%). This was followed by tourists from India with 28,011 visits (8.66%), Russia with 17,338 visits (5.36%), Malaysia with 17,040 visits (5.27%), and South Korea with 15,655 visits (4.84%).
