The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) plans to revitalize the National Monument (Monas) again this year. This revitalization program will focus on greening, adding approximately 300 new trees.

"We want to redevelop Monas, upgrading the existing green ratio from 50% to 64%," said Afan.

Previously, the DKI Provincial Government also revitalized the South Plaza of Monas during the governorship of Anies Baswedan, from November 2019 to mid-2021.

During that time, more than 200 trees were reportedly cut down to create the plaza. This year's revitalization will restore and increase the green spaces—previously removed by the previous governor's administration.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the number of Monas tourist visits reached 5 million in 2022.

The trend shows an increase in Monas tourist visits over the past decade, with the highest numbers before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The highest number of tourist visits to this iconic Jakarta landmark was in 2019, reaching 12.11 million, while the lowest was in 2021, with zero visits.

The lack of tourist visits in 2021 was due to the Monas revitalization during the Anies administration and the Covid-19 pandemic in the capital city.
