Susenas 2018: Only 27% of the Rural Population Uses the Internet

For many, the internet has become a daily necessity, both for work and lifestyle, especially for urban residents. However, internet usage in Indonesia still shows a disparity between rural and urban areas, as seen in the graph below.

Based on the 2018 National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) Social, Cultural, and Education Module, only 25.56% of rural residents used the internet in the three months prior to the survey. This figure lags behind the 50.92% of urban residents who used the internet during the same period.

In total, 39.9% of both rural and urban residents accessed the internet in the three months prior to the survey. This figure is an increase from the previous year's 32.24%.
