KIC Survey: Majority of Public Hopes Kominfo Will Stop Hoaxes

A survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) shows that 45.4% of respondents stated that the presence of misinformation or hoaxes is a serious problem. Therefore, actors are needed to stop the spread of hoaxes.

Kominfo is the institution most expected to take action against hoaxes circulating in society. 63.1% of respondents stated that Kominfo should act to stop the spread of hoaxes in 2021.

Respondents also stated that stopping the spread of hoaxes is the duty of all citizens. 31.9% of respondents acknowledged that all citizens have a responsibility in this matter.

Furthermore, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) are also expected to participate in eradicating the spread of false news. 26.5% of respondents expressed this view. Press and broadcasting management is next, trusted to stop disinformation with a percentage of 19.4%.

Other actors also considered capable of playing a role in stopping hoaxes include: the president (17.8%), online platform companies (15.1%), journalists (9.6%), local community leaders (7.1%), the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) (5.9%), and religious leaders (5.7%).
