WhatsApp Briefly Went Down; Users Report Several Issues

The instant messaging service WhatsApp reportedly experienced an outage (down) on Tuesday (October 25th) afternoon. The outage lasted from approximately 2 PM to 4 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

According to Downdetector data, the disruption occurred not only in Indonesia but also in Singapore and several other countries such as India, the Philippines, and the United States.

Downdetector received the most reports at 2:29 PM WIB, totaling 9,144 reports. The number of reports decreased to 662 by 4:05 PM WIB.

Downdetector data recorded several problems reported by users during the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday, October 26th, 2022, at 12:39 PM WIB.

The majority, or 50%, reported problems with the application. Others reported server connection issues (44%) and website problems (6%).

TechCrunch reported that DownDetector received over 60,000 complaints about WhatsApp within the first hour of the social media platform's outage. Users reported that they were unable to send or receive new messages, register for WhatsApp, or update profile information or privacy settings.

"We are aware that some people are currently experiencing issues sending messages and we are working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible," said a Meta spokesperson, as quoted by TechCrunch on Tuesday (October 25th).

However, WhatsApp did not specify the cause. WaBetaInfo reported that the problem originated on the server side.
