Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook visited Indonesia on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. He met with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta to discuss plans for establishing a fourth Apple Developer Academy in Bali.
They have invested a total of Rp1.6 trillion since establishing the Apple Developer Academy in 2018.
"The investment for the three Apple Developer Academies totaled Rp1.2 trillion. Adding another in Bali brings the total to Rp1.6 trillion," said Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi to Katadata on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
Apple Developer Academies in Indonesia are located in four areas: Bina Nusantara (Binus) BSD, Tangerang; Ciputra University in Surabaya; Infinite Learning in Batam; and Bali.
Budi also discussed the potential for establishing an Apple Store in Indonesia. He stated that Apple is still considering this.
"Other matters are under consideration. But based on their commitment and seriousness, they hope Indonesia will be involved in further production and development processes," said Budi.
On the same day, Tim Cook also visited Singapore. Two days earlier, on Monday, April 15, 2024, the CEO of the US-based company also visited Vietnam.
There is a noticeable difference in investment value across these three ASEAN countries.

According to data compiled by Katadata, Apple has doubled its factory investment in Vietnam since 2019, reaching a total of 400 trillion dong, or approximately Rp256.5 trillion. The company has had a presence in Vietnam for over a decade and has created more than 200,000 jobs.
The iPhone maker has 26 suppliers with 28 factories in Vietnam, according to a 2022 list. Most are located in the northern part of the country, allowing for easy connection to the existing supply chain in southern China.
In addition, Apple also collaborates with local organizations to provide clean water and clean energy to schools in rural Vietnam.
Meanwhile, investment in Singapore is estimated at over US$250 million, or approximately Rp4 trillion. This capital is for the expansion of the Apple campus in Ang Mo Kio, which will be expanded and utilize fully renewable energy.
The expansion and improvement of facilities or laboratories aim to achieve LEED Gold certification.
The company founded by the late Steve Jobs opened its first facility in Singapore in 1981 with 72 employees focused on the Apple II. Development has continued to encompass a team of over 3,600.
This facility serves as Apple's operational center and plays a role in the development of software, hardware, services, and support.
