According to a Jakpat survey, 52% of Indonesian consumers chose cash on delivery (COD) when shopping on e-commerce platforms in the past year. Of this number, 73% of respondents chose COD to ensure they receive the goods before paying.

Sixty percent of respondents chose COD because they considered it a simpler payment method. Thirty percent chose COD because they were reluctant to go to an ATM.

Furthermore, 14% of respondents chose COD because they did not have a bank account. Thirteen percent did not have a digital wallet. The remaining 2% cited other reasons.

The survey also showed that 54% of respondents using COD for online shopping in the past three months came from the lower-middle to lower socioeconomic classes. Geographically, 50% of COD usage was outside Java during the same period.

Jakpat conducted the survey among 1,054 respondents across 25 provinces from April to June 2021. The margin of error is below 3%.
