The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) has identified 96 hoaxes related to the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

These hoaxes were spread across 355 pieces of content on various social media platforms between July 17 and November 26, 2023.

"We have successfully taken down 290 pieces of content, while 65 others are still being processed," said Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi, as reported by Antara on Tuesday (November 28, 2023).

Kominfo recorded 6 hoaxes in July 2023, 18 in August, 13 in September, and 20 in October.

The number of findings then increased to 39 hoaxes in November 2023, coinciding with the approaching campaign period.

The General Election Commission (KPU) has officially set the campaign period for the 2024 General Election from November 28, 2023, to February 10, 2024, for both presidential and legislative candidates.

From July to November 2023, the most election-related hoax content was found on Facebook (312 pieces). Access to 274 pieces of content has been terminated, and 38 are still being processed.

There were 21 similar hoax contents on TikTok, 17 on YouTube, 3 on Twitter/X, and 2 on SnackVideo.

TikTok has terminated access to 4 hoax contents, while 17 are still being processed.

YouTube has terminated access to 10 contents, with 7 still being processed.

Twitter/X has terminated access to 1 content and is still processing 2, while SnackVideo has terminated access to 1 content with another still being analyzed.

Minister Budi stated that his ministry has strengthened cooperation with various digital platforms ahead of the 2024 General Election.

Budi said this aims to ensure that Indonesia's digital space is free from content that has the potential to divide society and to maintain a peaceful election narrative on social media.

He urged the public to report any questionable election information to the relevant digital platform.

The public can also report hoaxes to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics through aduankonten.id, or to the Bawaslu through jarimuawasipemilu.bawaslu.go.id.
