Cell Phone Use Among the Elderly Reached 46.79% in 2021

Cell phone use among the elderly in 2021 remained relatively stable compared to the previous year. A total of 46.79% of the elderly were recorded as using cell phones last year.

This rate of cell phone use increased slightly from 2020, which stood at 46.68%, marking the highest increase in cell phone use among the elderly in the last five years. This percentage rose by 3.6% from 43.08% in 2019.

Despite this five-year increase, cell phone use has never reached half of the elderly population. The majority of the elderly use cell phones to connect with family and relatives.

Conversely, computer use has been declining since 2018. The rate of computer use was recorded at 2.57% in 2018 and fell to 1.46% in 2021.

The decrease in computer use among the elderly is attributed to easier access to cell phones and the internet, making computers less necessary for them.
