Global Health and Fitness App Downloads Soared Since the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic rapidly changed people's behavior, including in the healthcare sector. Digital health services in the form of mobile phone applications became more necessary and saw increased usage during the pandemic.

According to a report from App Annie titled *State of Mobile 2022*, downloads of health and fitness applications globally remained high from 2019-2021, despite a decrease compared to the beginning of the pandemic in Q2 2020.

Downloads of health and fitness applications totaled 595.84 million in Q4 2021. This figure is down 6.3% from the previous quarter, which reached 636.15 million downloads. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the number of downloads in Q4 2021 increased by 5.17%.

From Q1 2019 to Q4 2021, the highest number of health and fitness application downloads occurred in Q2 2020, reaching 811.05 million. This was due to the increasingly widespread spread of Covid-19 cases worldwide.

Some health and fitness applications widely downloaded by the global community include COVIDSafe, MI Fit, and Calm. This report also notes that PeduliLindungi was the most downloaded health application in the world in 2021.
