PwC Indonesia, in its survey titled *Total Retail Survey 2017*, stated that most consumers have switched to online purchasing methods for several product types. In this survey, 59 percent of consumers preferred buying books, music, films, and video games from online stores. Furthermore, for clothing, 53 percent of consumers have switched to internet-based shopping.
PwC Indonesia assesses that the rapid development of e-commerce has significantly impacted the performance of offline retail. This is not only happening in Indonesia but also in other Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore and the Philippines. This condition is evident in the decrease in transactions at shopping malls in these countries.
As reported by *Bisnis Indonesia*, the Chairman of the Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo), Roy Mandey, said that 60-70 percent of the association's approximately 600 members are preparing to convert to online sales. Several have already started operating online. However, currently, e-commerce only serves as a channel to offset the decline in sales amidst the sluggish performance of the national retail sector.
