Of approximately one thousand Indonesians surveyed by Populix, 63% reported using online dating apps in early 2024.
Among these users, the majority (38%) used Tinder.
Tantan followed with 33% of respondents, followed by Bumble at 17%.
Omi, Dating.com, Badoo, and OK Cupid each had less than 15% of respondents using them.
Islamic online dating apps, Taaruf ID and Muslima.com, were used by 7% and 5% of respondents, respectively.
Populix also recorded the main reasons respondents used these apps.
The majority (56%) sought conversation partners, 48% were simply curious, and 46% used them for fun.
Only 27% of respondents used online dating apps to find a partner.
"This demonstrates a strong belief that [online dating] services do not always lead to the search for a life partner," Populix wrote in its report.
This survey was conducted from January 15-22, 2024, among 1,165 respondents in Indonesia, with 52% female and 48% male, later narrowed down to 732 respondents who use online dating apps.
The majority of respondents were from Java (80%), followed by Sumatra (13%), and other islands (8%). Respondents were predominantly aged 17-25 (44%) and 26-35 (38%).
