Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing service, leads the global cloud market. According to reports compiled by Synergy Research Group and Statista, AWS's market share reached 34% in the second quarter of 2022.
Microsoft's cloud service, Azure, ranked second with a global market share of 21% during the same period. Google Cloud came in third with a 10% market share.
Alibaba Cloud and IBM Cloud ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Alibaba Cloud's market share was recorded at 5%, and IBM Cloud at 4%.
Salesforce and Tencent Cloud each held a 3% market share. Oracle's cloud market share was 2%.
Synergy Research Group's report notes that company spending on cloud infrastructure services reached US$55 billion in the second quarter of 2022. This figure represents a 29% increase year-on-year (YoY).
Synergy Research Group's Chief Analyst, John Dinsdale, stated that global cloud providers are not immune to the impact of current exchange rate fluctuations. "However, the fact remains that underlying growth in cloud usage continues to grow at a truly impressive rate," said John, as quoted from the company's website on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
