An Indonesian political indicator compiled opinions from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) members in East Java regarding the leaders most frequently consulted on political matters.
Respondents most often chose religious figures as their trusted source of political opinion, at 23.3%.
Next were village heads (RT) at 23.3%, followed by village chiefs/heads (desa/lurah) at 15.4%, and traditional leaders at 9.7%.
East Javan NU members also consulted local political party officials (7.9%), youth leaders (7.8%), and neighborhood heads (RW) (6.6%) on political issues.
Respondents who consulted hamlet heads, students, and village officials constituted a smaller proportion, as shown in the graph.
This survey on the political opinion references of NU respondents in East Java used a multiple-answer format, allowing respondents to select more than one answer.
The survey involved 810 respondents aged 17 and above or who were married. The sample was selected using multistage random sampling from all Indonesian citizens in East Java Province.
Data collection was conducted from January 14-19, 2024, using face-to-face interviews. The margin of error is 3.5% with a 95% confidence level.
