The Ministry of Communication and Informatics Takes Down 4,616 Pieces of COVID-19 Hoax Content, Most of Which Were on Facebook

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) recorded 4,741 hoax contents related to the Corona virus Covid-19 spread on social media from January 23 to September 15, 2021. Of these, 4,616 hoax contents have been followed up.

The majority of the followed-up hoax contents were on Facebook (3,961). 557 hoax contents were followed up on Twitter.

54 hoax contents were followed up on YouTube. Instagram and TikTok each had 37 and 7 followed-up hoax contents, respectively.

Meanwhile, 125 hoax contents are still being processed. The breakdown is: 99 on Facebook, 10 on Twitter, 14 on TikTok, 1 on Instagram, and 1 on YouTube.

Furthermore, Kemenkominfo found 2,119 hoax contents related to vaccines up to September 15, 2021. All of these vaccine-related hoax contents have been taken down.

The majority of vaccine-related hoax contents were on Facebook (1,941). 105 vaccine-related hoax contents were on Twitter.

There were 43 vaccine-related hoax contents on YouTube. TikTok and Instagram each had 19 and 11 vaccine-related hoax contents, respectively.
