According to research by the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), the digital security index of media companies in Indonesia falls into the "poor" category in 2024, with a score of 19.71 out of a maximum of 31 points.
AJI compiled this digital security index based on a survey of management representatives from 116 media companies in Indonesia.
Respondents were asked to assess various indicators grouped into three aspects: experience with digital attacks, digital security practices, and perception of digital security. The higher the score given, the better the condition.
Below are the details of the digital security index scores for media companies in Indonesia, according to AJI's research:
- Experience related to digital attacks on media companies and employees (journalists/non-journalists): 7.14 points (maximum score 8, consisting of 20 indicators)
- Perception of digital security: 7.54 points (maximum score 12, consisting of 3 indicators)
- Digital security practices: 5.03 points (maximum score 11, consisting of 5 indicators)
- Total: 19.71 points (maximum score 31, consisting of 28 indicators)
According to AJI, this total score, which is categorized as poor, is primarily due to minimal digital security practices.
"Meanwhile, the aspect of perception regarding digital security is relatively good, at 7.54 out of a maximum of 12," AJI explained in its report.
"The only aspect that can be said to be in good condition is the experience related to digital attacks, with a score of 7.14 out of a maximum of 8," they stated.
