Top 10 Most Innovative Countries in 2025: Switzerland Takes the Lead

According to the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025 report, Switzerland is this year's most innovative country in the world. This marks Switzerland's fifteenth consecutive year at the top of the innovation rankings.

The Global Innovation Index, compiled by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is based on 78 indicators divided into two sub-indices: inputs and outputs.

Inputs represent various factors that drive and enable innovation. The assessed components include institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, market sophistication, and business sophistication.

Outputs represent the results of innovation, measured by knowledge and technology products, as well as creative products.

These indicators are processed into a score on a scale of 0-100 points. The higher the score, the higher a country's innovative capacity is assumed to be.

In 2025, Switzerland achieved a score of 66 points, the highest among the 139 countries researched.

This year, China, for the first time, broke into the top 10 with a score of 56.6 points.

China was also named the most innovative upper-middle-income country, surpassing Malaysia and Turkey.

The following is a list of the top 10 countries with the highest Global Innovation Index scores in 2025, according to WIPO:

1. Switzerland: 66 points

2. Sweden: 62.6 points

3. United States: 61.7 points

4. South Korea: 60 points

5. Singapore: 59.9 points

6. United Kingdom: 59.1 points

7. Finland: 57.7 points

8. Netherlands: 57 points

9. Denmark: 56.9 points

10. China: 56.6 points

Meanwhile, Indonesia ranked 55th globally with a score of 31.3 points.
