Meta Dominates the XR Market Share in Q1 2025

According to Counterpoint, Meta remains the leading player in the global extended reality (XR) market, encompassing virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), in Q1 2025.

VR is a simulation technology that allows users to feel immersed, while AR is a technology that overlays digital information onto the real world.

Meta essentially controlled approximately one-third of the global XR market share in Q1 2025. Trailing significantly behind Meta were Sony, Pico, Xreal, and Apple.

The Meta Quest 3S remained the best-selling model in Q1 2025, despite a 60% sequential decline in shipments due to significantly reduced demand after the initial sales hype.

Total global VR headset shipments in Q1 2025 decreased by 22% year-on-year (YoY) and 60% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ).

Meanwhile, global smart AR glasses shipments grew by 31% YoY in Q1 2025, ending three consecutive quarters of YoY decline.

"This strong YoY growth was driven by new product launches from leading OEMs, the entry of new players into the market, broader international expansion by existing OEMs compared to the same period last year, and China's national consumer electronics subsidy programs," stated Counterpoint.

According to Counterpoint, a key highlight of the global AR market for Q1 2025 is the increased penetration of products featuring MicroLED displays and waveguide optics. This was driven by improved devices such as the INMO GO 2 and Meizu StarV Air 2.

"This growth trend is expected to continue in Q2 2025 with the entry of Rokid AR Glasses into the market," said Counterpoint.
