Mobile World Live reveals that global mobile network operators have begun investing in 6G technology. However, a significant portion of industry players admit to closely monitoring market developments.
“6G is a hot topic, but it’s still in the planning stages. This may explain why only 17% of MNOs (mobile network operators) have already invested in the technology,” stated Mobile World Live in its report.
Globally, 47% of respondents chose to closely monitor the market regarding 6G developments. Meanwhile, 35% are delaying investment in 6G technology.
“35% of respondents are delaying investment because 6G is not expected to become commercially viable until at least 2030,” said Mobile World Live.
Considering key priorities, mobile network operators appear to prioritize artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, 20% of respondents chose making their businesses more sustainable as a top priority in 2025.
"Maximizing AI is the top priority for respondents in 2025. 30% cited it—up from 19% who chose this last year," Mobile World Live revealed.
The third top priority for global mobile network operators is the monetization of network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) or growth beyond connectivity. This option was chosen by 15% of respondents.
In the Industry Survey 2025 report, Mobile World Live involved 300 respondents working in the fields of mobile network operators, software and application development, network infrastructure vendors, and manufacturing and consulting. Half of the respondents were based in Europe, a quarter in North and South America, and the remainder in Asia and Africa.
The survey collaborated with 1Global, Iridium Satellite Communications, Solvatio, and Synchronoss.
