Kompas Research and Development conducted a survey on public hesitation in posting on social media.

The results show that 32.6% of respondents had hesitated to post content due to concerns about offending friends or family.

Furthermore, 16.4% of respondents had canceled posting content due to concerns about offending the government, and 6.8% due to concerns about sensitive issues such as ethnicity or race.

On the other hand, only 33.4% of respondents had never hesitated to post content on social media.

"Social media has become a 'second living space' for most Indonesians. Unfortunately, this space still feels ambiguous and not entirely safe and comfortable for self-expression," wrote Kompas Research and Development in its report on Sunday (June 9, 2025).

Kompas Research and Development also surveyed respondents' concerns about content circulating on social media.

Pornography was the most concerning type of content (29.6%), followed by online gambling content (27%), violence (16.3%), and political criticism or government criticism (15.2%).

This survey involved 514 respondents from 58 cities in 38 provinces, randomly selected according to the population proportion in each province.

Data collection was conducted from May 19-22, 2025, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.25% with a 95% confidence level, under conditions of simple random sampling.
