AS Emerges as the Top Source of Cyberattacks Against Indonesia in the Second Half of 2024

Based on AwanPintar.id's monitoring, approximately 3.24 billion cyberattacks were detected in Indonesia during the second semester of 2024, originating both domestically and internationally.

During this period, the United States was the largest contributor to cyberattacks, accounting for 18.52% of the total.

Cyberattacks originating from within Indonesia also constituted a significant portion, representing 6.80% and ranking among the top three sources.

"There's been a significant increase in attacks originating from Indonesia. Domestic attacks, previously outside the top 10, have jumped to third place," wrote AwanPintar.id in its *Digital Threat Report in Indonesia*, February 2025 edition.

"The rapid growth of attacks originating from within the country doesn't tell the whole story. Many domestic proxies serve as stepping stones, and attackers from abroad could also be the cause," it continued.

Other countries significantly contributing to cyberattacks against Indonesia include Hong Kong, China, Turkey, Bangladesh, Brazil, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Russia, as shown in the graph.

The report notes that some of the most frequently detected cyberattacks in Indonesia include generic protocol command decode, attempted administrator privilege gain, misc activity, and suspicious traffic.

AwanPintar.id collected this data using detection technology deployed across Indonesia's internet network. Each detector has a public IP address and specific functions that make it a target for attacks, allowing for the collection and analysis of each attack.
