A JakPat survey reveals several ways Generation Z (Gen Z) reduces waste.

Carrying their own water bottles is the most common method, with 56% of respondents doing so. 47% use reusable shopping bags; 46% bring their own food containers; 39% avoid single-use plastics; and 36% reduce purchases of products with excessive plastic packaging.

Furthermore, 31% of Gen Z respondents reported using recycled materials and sorting waste at home.

The survey also found that the majority (68%) of Gen Z obtain information on social and environmental issues from social media.

The JakPat survey involved 1,155 Gen Z respondents (born between 1997 and 2012), comprising 50% female and 50% male participants. Respondents were located in non-Jabodetabek Java (44%), Jabodetabek (28%), and outside Java (28%).

The online survey was conducted via the JakPat application from December 6-9, 2024, with a margin of error below 5%.
