Jakarta's Internet Speed Lags Behind Other Cities in the Asia-Pacific Region

According to OpenSignal data, Seoul has the fastest internet download speeds in the Asia-Pacific region.

Based on data collected from July 1 to September 30, 2024, the average download speed in the South Korean capital reached 168.1 megabits per second (Mbps).

"Seoul's superior performance stems from South Korea's early adoption of 5G technology, with over 50% of cellular connections running on 5G networks," OpenSignal wrote in its report on Thursday (November 7, 2024).

The report mentions that Seoul's 5G internet network is widely available, extending to public Wi-Fi on city buses.

Sydney, Australia, followed with an internet download speed of 89.8 Mbps, and Singapore with 80.5 Mbps.

Meanwhile, the internet download speed in Jakarta, Indonesia, was only 26.4 Mbps. Jakarta ranked 13th out of 15 Asia-Pacific cities researched.
