iPhone 16 Not Yet Officially Sold in Indonesia
The iPhone 16 is not yet officially sold in Indonesia because it has not received sales permission from the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).
Kemenperin is withholding sales permits because the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) requirements have not been met, requiring Apple to invest a certain amount in Indonesia.
Despite this, according to Kemenperin, approximately 9,000 iPhone 16 units entered Indonesia between August and October 2024 via passenger baggage from other countries.
"iPhones 16 brought into Indonesia by passengers and paying taxes are personal belongings that cannot be resold and are limited to the passenger's personal use," said Kemenperin Spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni, as reported by *Antara*, Friday (25/10/2024).
"Kemenperin encourages the public to report any parties selling these phones brought in as passenger baggage," he added.
Each passenger bringing an iPhone 16 from abroad must register the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and is limited to bringing a maximum of two phones.
