Qatar national team striker, Akram Afif, won the Golden Boot award as the top scorer in the 2023 Asian Cup. According to Transfermarkt, he scored 8 goals throughout the tournament.
In the final match between Jordan and Qatar at Lusail Stadium on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, Akram Afif scored a hat-trick from penalty kicks in the 22nd, 73rd, and 90+5th minutes.
The Al Sadd player's contribution helped Qatar win the 2023 Asian Cup with a final score of 1-3 against Jordan.
After being named the top scorer of the 2023 Asian Cup, Akram Afif thanked the people of Qatar.
“Congratulations to the coach and the fans. I can’t express what we feel, but the coach has worked very hard for us,” said Akram Afif on the official AFC website on Sunday, February 11th, 2024.
Akram Afif had already shown impressive performance since the start of the 2023 Asian Cup. He scored two goals in the opening match against Lebanon and continued to perform at his best.
Out of the seven matches he played, Akram Afif only failed to score against China in the group stage and against Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals.
Following him is Aymen Hussein, who scored 6 goals during the 2023 Asian Cup. The Iraqi national team player could not add to his tally after being eliminated in the round of 16.
Then followed by Yazan Al-Naimat (Jordan) and Ayase Ueda (Japan), who both scored 4 goals throughout the 2023 Asian Cup.
