Wealthy Households Most Frequently Utilize the Internet for Business

Internet access and reach for Indonesian households is not yet evenly distributed. The World Bank states that the utilization and proportion of internet use for business activities depends on the household income level.

The highest proportion of internet use for business comes from quintile 5, at 24%. This means that people from wealthy households utilize the internet for their businesses more than other households.

Following this, the proportion of internet use for business from quintile 4 is 16%, quintile 3 is 15%, and quintile 2 is 10%. Only 1% of the population from quintile 1 utilizes the internet for business.

This indicates an inequality in internet adoption across different economic statuses. Internet usage is significantly higher among wealthy households than poor households.

For information, the economic status of the population can be divided into 5 quintiles, namely:

* Quintile 1: The poorest 20% of the population
* Quintile 2: The poor and vulnerable 20% of the population
* Quintile 3: The 20% of the population with moderate expenditure
* Quintile 4: The 20% of the population with upper-middle expenditure
* Quintile 5: The wealthiest 20% of the population
