Can Cloud Services Reduce IT Operational Costs? This Survey Says

According to a survey by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), only about 30% of public institutions in Indonesia utilize cloud computing technology.

Among the various types of public institutions surveyed, the central government has the highest adoption rate of cloud technology compared to local governments, universities, and hospitals.

The CSIS survey also found that the use of cloud services can provide various benefits to public institutions, one of which is cost efficiency.

27.5% of respondents stated that cloud usage was able to reduce operational and maintenance costs of information technology (IT) systems in their institutions by up to 10%.

Furthermore, 9.8% of respondents reported a reduction in IT costs of 11-20% thanks to cloud usage. 5.9% of respondents reduced IT costs by 21-30%, and 2% of respondents even managed to cut IT costs by 31-40%.

Although cloud usage in public institutions remains low, the CSIS survey found that 40% of respondents plan to adopt it in the future.

CSIS conducted this survey on 169 public institutions spread across five regions in Indonesia: DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Bali, and Gorontalo.

Of the total sample, 21 were central government institutions, 67 were local governments, 47 were universities, and 34 were hospitals.
