Urban farming is agricultural activity in urban areas with limited land. Most of the planting media are not on the ground, but use hydroponics, aquaponics, vertical farming, and other mediums.
According to the results of the 2023 Agricultural Census (ST2023) from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of individual farming businesses (UTP) in urban farming in Indonesia reached 13,019 units.
West Java was the province with the highest number of urban farming UTPs nationally this year, reaching 3,231 units. This represents 24.82% of the total urban farming in Indonesia.
The top three provinces with the most urban farming UTPs this year are dominated by Java Island.
Second and third place are occupied by East Java and Central Java, with 2,490 units (19.13%) and 1,953 units (15%) of urban farming UTPs respectively.
Meanwhile, the province with the fewest urban farming UTPs in Indonesia is Papua Pegunungan, with only one unit. This is followed by Central Papua and Southwest Papua with 9 and 16 units respectively.
