A wave of mass layoffs hit global startups in the first few months of 2022.

Citing data from Layoffs.fyi, by May 2022, the US-based property startup Better.com had laid off 3,000 employees.

Two other US startups listed on the stock exchange followed suit: Peloton, which fired 2,800 employees, and Carvana, which laid off 2,500 employees.

Zenius echoed this sentiment. The local education startup said it conducted layoffs to adapt to the dynamic macroeconomic conditions affecting the industry.

“We are carrying out business process consolidation and synergy to ensure sustainability,” said Zenius in an official statement received by Katadata.co.id on Tuesday (24/5/2022).
