Oppo dominated smartphone shipments in Indonesia in 2021. According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), Oppo shipped 8.5 million smartphones to Indonesia last year, capturing a 20.8% market share.
This shipment volume increased by 3.5% year-on-year (YoY) compared to the previous year, when Oppo shipped 8.2 million units. However, Oppo's market share decreased from the previous year's 22.3%.
Oppo led the low-end smartphone segment priced between US$100 and US$200 (approximately Rp1.4 million to under Rp2.8 million). However, Oppo had a smaller market share than other vendors in the 5G smartphone category.
Following Oppo, Xiaomi held the second-largest market share in Indonesia. The Chinese company shipped 8.1 million smartphones to Indonesia throughout 2021, a 34.2% YoY increase.
Vivo and Samsung followed in the next positions, with shipments of 7.4 million and 7.2 million units, respectively. Vivo's shipments decreased by 20.2% YoY, while Samsung's shipments increased by 19.5% YoY.
Realme occupied fifth place with shipments of 5 million units, down 3.3% YoY. Shipments from other vendors totaled 4.7 million units, a 119% YoY growth.
In total, 40.9 million smartphones were shipped to Indonesia in 2021, an 11% YoY increase. IDC forecasts smartphone shipments in Indonesia to reach 44 million units in 2022, an 8% YoY growth driven by improved supply.
