East Kalimantan Residents Most Frequently Use the Internet for Entertainment Rather Than Accessing Public Services

East Kalimantan residents most frequently access the internet for entertainment rather than public services.

This aligns with a survey report from a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), titled *Digital Literacy Status in Indonesia 2022*.

According to the report, 52% of respondents frequently search for information online; 40% reported frequent use, and 12% reported very frequent use.

This is followed by online video/music streaming, with 45% of respondents reporting frequent use (25% frequent, 20% very frequent).

Meanwhile, fewer respondents frequently used the internet for online shopping/e-commerce, accessing online news portals, and playing online games, as shown in the graph above.

Conversely, the number of East Kalimantan respondents frequently using the internet for work is relatively low. Only 14% of respondents reported frequent use of the internet for online meetings and work applications.

Similarly, internet access for public/government services and healthcare services is also very low among East Kalimantan residents, with only 9% of respondents reporting frequent use in each category.

“Entertainment is the most frequent internet activity in East Kalimantan, while work and access to public services are the least frequent,” stated the Ministry of Kominfo and KIC.

The Ministry of Kominfo and KIC conducted this survey among 10,000 internet users aged 13-70 years, spread across 34 provinces and 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia. The survey comprised 51% male and 49% female respondents.

The survey was conducted from August to September 2022 through face-to-face interviews. Sampling was done using multistage random sampling, with a margin of error of approximately 0.98% and a 95% confidence interval.
