Mexico triumphed over New Zealand thanks to goals from Fidel Barajas (42'), Adrian Fernandez (47'), Stephano Carrillo (54'), and a Carrillo penalty in the 67th minute.
The victory over New Zealand gave Mexico four points. This result placed El Tri as the runner-up in Group F, displacing Venezuela from their previous position.
By finishing as runner-up, Mexico automatically qualified for the round of 16. Meanwhile, Venezuela dropped down and entered the best third-placed teams ranking.
