A Kurious-Katadata Insight Center (KIC) survey shows that the majority of Indonesians remain interested in watching the Indonesian national team's match against Argentina at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta, even without Lionel Messi.
89.5% of respondents stated their interest in watching the FIFA Matchday match despite the absence of the La Albicelestes star player. This breaks down to 70% expressing interest and 19.5% expressing strong interest.
Conversely, only 10.5% of respondents said they were not interested in watching the Indonesia vs. Argentina match without La Pulga. This includes 9.2% who said they were not interested and 1.3% who said they were very uninterested.
Recently, reports from two Argentine sports journalists surfaced suggesting that Lionel Messi would not be playing in the FIFA Matchday against the Indonesian national team in Jakarta on June 19th.
"The Argentine national team is training in Beijing for the match against Australia on Thursday. Messi is confirmed to play against Australia but will not go to Indonesia," stated journalist Pablo Gravellone on his Twitter account @gravep on Monday, June 12, 2023.
This information was immediately corroborated by journalist Leo Paradizo, who was the first to spread the rumor of Messi not playing in Indonesia.
"He will not come to Indonesia. Confirmed," tweeted @leoparadizo.
However, the All-Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) denied the reports that Lionel Messi would not come to Indonesia and stated that he would still play in the FIFA Matchday.
This survey was conducted among 466 respondents out of a total of 581 respondents spread across various regions of Indonesia, with 55.2% male respondents and 44.8% female respondents.
More than half of the respondents were from the island of Java outside Jakarta (61.8%), followed by Jakarta (15.8%), and Sumatra (11.5%). The proportion of respondents from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua ranged from 0.2% to 4.3%.
Most respondents were aged between 35-44 years (32.4%), followed by the 25-34 age group (26.7%) and the 45-54 age group (23.6%).
The survey was conducted from June 5-8, 2023, using the computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) method, with a margin of error of approximately 4.06% and a 95% confidence level.
