Only half of Jakarta's population owns their own home. This is evident from the *People's Welfare Statistics* report released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
According to the BPS definition, 'owned home' refers to a residential building owned by the head of the household or one of its members. A residential building purchased through bank installments is also considered an owned home.
In March 2022, only 50.67% of households in DKI Jakarta Province lived in their own homes.
Furthermore, 30.94% lived in rented houses, and 16.93% lived in 'rent-free houses,' meaning residential buildings they could occupy without paying rent because they were obtained from parents, family, or other parties.
Another 1.47% lived in company housing provided by their employer, or other housing categories such as shared accommodation, etc.
BPS also noted that the proportion of Jakarta households living in owned homes is the lowest nationally.
