President Jokowi stated that approximately one hundred regional heads will end their terms in 2022.
"We must also prepare officials for governors, regents, and mayors whose terms end in 2022; there are 101 regions. They need to be prepared because there are 7 governors, 76 regents, and 18 mayors to be filled," Jokowi said in the *2024 Simultaneous Election and Regional Head Election Preparation Meeting*, as reported by the official website of the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat on Sunday (10/4/2022).
The list of governors whose terms will end in 2022 is as follows:
1. Governor of Aceh: Nova Iriansyah
2. Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands: Erzaldi Rosman Djohan
3. Governor of DKI Jakarta: Anies Baswedan
4. Governor of Banten: Wahidin Halim
5. Governor of Gorontalo: Rusli Habibie
6. Governor of West Sulawesi: Muhammad Ali Baal Masdar
7. Governor of West Papua: Dominggus Mandacan
Meanwhile, the terms of several other governors on Java Island will end in 2023, namely Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil, and Governor of East Java Khofifah.
Regional heads whose terms expire in 2022-2023 will be replaced by acting governors until the Regional Head Elections are held in 2024. The regulation regarding this is stipulated in Law No. 10 of 2016 Article 201 point 9 which reads:
"To fill the vacancy of the Governor and Deputy Governor, Regent and Deputy Regent, and Mayor and Deputy Mayor whose terms end in 2022 as referred to in paragraph (3) and whose terms end in 2023 as referred to in paragraph (5), acting Governors, acting Regents, and acting Mayors shall be appointed until the election of the Governor and Deputy Governor, Regent and Deputy Regent, and Mayor and Deputy Mayor through the simultaneous national election in 2024."
President Jokowi emphasized that the Presidential and Vice Presidential Election will be held in February 2024, while the Simultaneous Regional Head Elections will be held in November 2024, without any postponement as has been widely rumored.
“Let's not allow speculation to arise, rumors circulating in society that the government is trying to postpone the election or speculation about the extension of the president's term and also related to the issue of a third term,” Jokowi said in his speech on Sunday (10/4/2022).
President Jokowi mentioned that the budget allocation for the 2024 Simultaneous Election and Regional Head Election is estimated to reach Rp110.4 trillion.
The details are: the budget for the General Election Commission (KPU) is Rp76.6 trillion and for the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is Rp33.8 trillion.
