The 2019 House of Representatives (DPR) seat acquisition is one of the requirements for nominating a presidential or vice-presidential candidate (capres/cawapres) in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).
This is stipulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections, Article 222, which reads: "The Candidate Pair is nominated by a Political Party or a Coalition of Participating Political Parties in the General Election that meets the requirements of obtaining at least 20% (twenty percent) of the total number of DPR seats or obtaining 25% (twenty-five percent) of the national valid votes in the previous DPR General Election."
Based on the Election Law, political parties eligible to nominate a capres/cawapres in the 2024 Presidential Election must obtain a minimum of 20% of the total DPR seats in the 2019 General Election. Thus, only one party meets the requirements based on the percentage of DPR seats obtained.
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), PDI Perjuangan obtained 22.26% of the total 575 seats in the DPR RI in the 2019 General Election. This means that the party with the white-muzzled banteng head logo is entitled to nominate a capres/cawapres in the 2024 Presidential Election without having to form a coalition.
Meanwhile, the other eight parties must form a coalition to ensure that their combined DPR RI seats meet the threshold (Presidential Threshold) of at least 20%.
These eight parties are: Golkar Party (14.78% of DPR RI seats), Gerindra Party (13.57%), Nasdem Party (10.26%), and PKB Party (10.09%).
Following these are the Democratic Party (9.39% of DPR RI seats), PKS Party (8.7%), PAN Party (7.65%), and PPP Party (3.3%).
For information, the 2019 General Election was participated in by 16 political parties. The nine parties above successfully entered the House of Representatives (Senayan). Meanwhile, the other seven parties did not meet the threshold (Parliamentary Threshold) of 4% of the national valid votes.
The following is the vote acquisition of the seven political parties that did not meet the requirements to seat their representatives in the DPR RI in the 2019 General Election:
1. Perindo: 2.67%
2. Berkarya Party: 2.09%
3. PSI Party: 1.89%
4. Hanura Party: 1.54%
5. Bulan Bintang Party: 0.79%
6. Garuda Party: 0.50%
