The National Democrat Party (Nasdem) declared Anies Baswedan as its presidential candidate for the 2024 Presidential Election on Monday (3/10/2022). This declaration has intensified the political climate ahead of the 2024 general election.

On the same day, the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) also announced its presidential candidate for the 2024 Presidential Election, namely the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, although Ganjar Pranowo is actually a cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

Internally, within the Nasdem Party, the nomination of Anies Baswedan as a prospective presidential candidate has faced opposition. This is reflected in several party cadres resigning after Anies' nomination.

The nomination of Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate could impact the party's vote share in the 2024 general election. Nasdem is currently identified as a nationalist party, yet party elites are nominating Anies Baswedan, who employed identity politics during the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Nasdem Party received 2.19 million valid votes nationally in East Java, the highest compared to other provinces. The party's highest vote count came from Central Java with 1.5 million votes, followed by West Java with 1.2 million votes.

Nationally, the Nasdem Party received 12.66 million valid votes, representing 9.05% of the total 139.79 million valid national votes.
