The latest survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia shows that 22% of the public are aware of the corruption case involving the 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) project of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), which implicated former Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate.

Of the 22% of respondents aware of the corruption case, 80.4% believe that Johnny G. Plate committed corruption.

Of those aware of the corruption case, 50.4% of respondents believe the case is purely legal. Meanwhile, 36.3% of respondents believe the case, currently being handled by the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung), has political undertones.

"The difference (in the proportion of respondents) isn't significant. This is a note for the Attorney General's Office, that many still perceive this issue as heavily politically charged; roughly one-third of those who know about it," said Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Executive Director of Indikator Politik Indonesia, in an online press conference on Sunday (2/7/2023).

Previously, Johnny G. Plate was named a suspect in the Kominfo 4G BTS corruption case in mid-May 2023. The NasDem Party politician was named a suspect after being questioned three times by the Attorney General's Office.

This survey was conducted through telephone interviews with 1,220 respondents aged 17 or older, or already married, across all Indonesian provinces between June 20-24, 2023. The sample was drawn using multistage random sampling.

Selected respondents were interviewed face-to-face by trained interviewers. The survey's margin of error is approximately 2.9% at a 95% confidence level, assuming simple random sampling.
