Kurious Survey: Most Indonesian Citizens Doubt IKN's Readiness for Habitation in 2024

The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) stated that the 2024 Indonesian Independence Day celebration on August 17th in Nusantara Capital (IKN), East Kalimantan, will mark the beginning of the gradual relocation of the capital from DKI Jakarta.

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) reported that the IKN's progress has reached 36%, and the construction of the presidential palace has reached 23% of the plan.

However, is the public confident that IKN will be habitable by 2024?

Based on a survey by Kurious-Katadata Insight Center (KIC), 51.8% of respondents stated that they were not confident that IKN would be habitable by 2024.

The details are: 17.2% of respondents answered "very unconvinced," and 34.6% answered "unconvinced."

On the other hand, 39.2% of respondents felt confident. The details are: 28.8% of respondents answered "confident," and 10.4% answered "very confident."

Another 9% of respondents said they did not know.

This Kurious-KIC survey was conducted on 633 respondents, with 45% male and 55% female respondents.

More than half of the respondents (64.04%) were from the island of Java (excluding Jakarta), followed by respondents from DKI Jakarta (14.2%) and Sumatra (12.3%). The proportion of respondents from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua ranged from 0.6% to 3.8%.

Most respondents were from the 35-44 age group (32.7%), followed by the 25-34 age group (30.6%) and the 45-54 age group (21.8%).

Data was collected from July 11-18, 2023, using the computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) method, with a margin of error of approximately 3.89% and a confidence level of 95%.
