Riau, Indonesian Province with the Most Corruption Cases in 2024

According to monitoring by Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), law enforcement officials in Indonesia handled 364 corruption cases in 2024.

These cases involved 888 suspects, with potential state losses reaching Rp279.9 trillion.

In terms of distribution, the highest number of corruption cases handled in 2024 were recorded in Riau Province, with 35 cases.

ICW believes that the high number of prosecutions in Riau reflects the good performance of law enforcement officials in the region.

"However, at the same time, this indicates that financial management in several government sectors in Riau Province is still poor and vulnerable to corruption," ICW stated in its 2024 Corruption Trend Monitoring Report.

Below is a list of the top 10 provinces with the highest number of corruption cases in Indonesia in 2024, according to ICW's monitoring: 

1. Riau: 35 cases
2. East Nusa Tenggara: 29 cases
3. Aceh: 24 cases
4. Bengkulu: 21 cases
5. Bali: 19 cases
6. North Sumatra: 17 cases
7. Riau Islands: 16 cases
8. West Kalimantan: 16 cases
9. East Kalimantan: 15 cases
10. Southeast Sulawesi: 13 cases

Meanwhile, the provinces with the lowest number of corruption cases were Highland Papua, West Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and Banten, each with only one case.

"It is important to underline that the results of this case mapping by region do not necessarily serve as a basis for assessing the level of corruption vulnerability in a province," ICW stated.

"Provinces with a small number of cases and suspects could also be due to law enforcement officials in those provinces not working optimally in prosecuting corruption cases," they said.
