National Armed Forces, Indonesia's Most Trusted Institution, May 2025

According to an Indikator survey, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) remains the most trusted state institution among Indonesian citizens.

In May 2025, the TNI garnered trust from 85.7% of respondents. This comprises 23.9% who stated they strongly trust the TNI and 61.8% who expressed sufficient trust.

"Remember, this is public trust, not approval. It signifies trust in institutions, not individual performance," said Indikator researcher Burhanuddin Muhtadi in a press conference on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

He assessed that this level of trust is a crucial element in a democracy. High levels of distrust can hinder state institutions from implementing policies effectively.

Below the TNI, the President achieved a trust rating of 85.7%, consisting of 17.3% of respondents who strongly trust the President and 65.4% who expressed sufficient trust.

The Attorney General's Office ranked third with a 76% trust rating, detailed as 13.1% of respondents expressing strong trust and 62.9% expressing sufficient trust.

Public trust in other institutions ranged from 65-75%. Political parties achieved the lowest trust rating, at only 65.6%.

This survey involved 1,286 respondents aged 17 and above, spread across Indonesia. Respondents were selected using multistage random sampling.

Data collection was conducted from May 17-20, 2025, through face-to-face interviews with trained interviewers. The survey's margin of error is plus or minus 2.8% at a 95% confidence level.
