961 Regional Heads Simultaneously Inaugurated: Here's the Breakdown

President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 961 regional heads and their deputies at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

According to the Indonesian government's information portal, *Indonesia.go.id*, this simultaneous inauguration of regional heads is a first in Indonesian history.

Based on their rank, the majority were regents, with 363 regents and 362 deputy regents. This was followed by 85 mayors and 85 deputy mayors. Finally, there were 33 governors and 33 deputy governors.

These inaugurated regional deputies are the result of elections in 481 regions out of a total of 505 regions that held regional elections.

Of note, the deputy regent candidate from Ciamis, Yana D Putra, passed away two days before the election, on November 25, 2024. Therefore, only the elected Regent of Ciamis, Herdiat Sunarya, was inaugurated, as reported by *Katadata*.

Meanwhile, several other regional heads have not yet been inaugurated because their election results are still being contested in the Constitutional Court (MK).

Initially, the elected regional heads gathered at the National Monument before proceeding to the Presidential Palace for the swearing-in ceremony.

During the ceremony, Prabowo delivered a message that the positions of regional head/deputy regional head are a trust from the people, and that they are servants of the people.
