Survey Indicator: Majority of Respondents Agree that Corruptors and Drug Lords Should Face the Death Penalty

The Indonesian Political Indicator Survey Institute released the results of a public opinion survey on the death penalty for major corruptors and drug kingpins. The survey shows that the majority of respondents agree with the death penalty for both.

84% of respondents supported the death penalty for major corruptors. This includes 26.5% who strongly agreed and 57.5% who agreed.

Meanwhile, 85.5% of respondents supported the death penalty for drug kingpins, with 23.6% strongly agreeing and 61.9% agreeing.

Conversely, a certain percentage of respondents disagreed with the death penalty for major corruptors and drug kingpins. The disapproval rate was 11.7% for major corruptors and 11.1% for drug kingpins.

Specifically, 10% of respondents somewhat disagreed and 1.7% strongly disagreed with the death penalty for major corruptors. Similarly, for drug kingpins, 9.2% somewhat disagreed and 1.7% strongly disagreed.

Furthermore, 4.3% of respondents were unsure/did not answer regarding major corruptors, and 3.4% were unsure/did not answer regarding drug kingpins.

This survey was conducted from February 11-21, 2022. The survey population consisted of citizens aged 17 years or older, or those who were married at the time of the survey. A multistage random sampling method was used for sample selection.

The survey's base sample size was 1,200 individuals. Samples were drawn from all provinces and proportionally distributed. Assuming simple random sampling, the margin of error is approximately ±2.9% at a 95% confidence level.
