The Attorney General's Office is questioning Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in crude palm oil (CPO) exports, which led to a domestic cooking oil shortage.
"This is an investigative development in the handling of the alleged criminal act of corruption in CPO exports in 2021," said Kuntadi, Director of Investigation at the Attorney General's Office, in a press conference on Monday evening (July 24, 2023).
"I think it's still too premature to declare (Airlangga Hartarto's) involvement and so on in this case. This is still an initial investigation," he continued.
Previously, the Attorney General's Office had indicted five defendants involved in collusion in the corruption of granting permits for palm oil exports, namely:
* Indrasari Wisnu Wardhana (Eselon I Official, Ministry of Trade)
* Pierre Togar Sitanggang (General Affair, PT Musim Mas)
* Master Parulian Tumanggor (Commissioner, PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia)
* Stanley MA (Senior Manager, Corporate Affair, Permata Hijau Group)
* Weibinanto Halimdjati (Private sector employee seconded to the Ministry of Trade).
The Attorney General's Office is now questioning Airlangga Hartarto regarding the same case, in relation to his role as Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs.
Airlangga Hartarto's wealth has reportedly increased significantly since he took office as Coordinating Minister.
Based on the State Officials' Wealth Report (LHKPN), at the end of 2019, a few months after being inaugurated as Coordinating Minister, Airlangga only had assets worth approximately Rp254 billion.
His wealth then increased significantly in 2021, and rose again to a total of Rp454 billion at the end of 2022, as shown in the graph above.
In total, during his 3 years as Coordinating Minister, Airlangga Hartarto's wealth has increased by approximately Rp200 billion.
The most significant increase in Airlangga's wealth is in the form of cash and cash equivalents, increasing from Rp5.6 billion at the end of 2019 to Rp335 billion at the end of 2022.
His land and building assets also grew rapidly, from Rp86.5 billion at the end of 2019 to Rp113.9 billion at the end of 2022.
