Donald John Trump was ultimately elected as the 45th President of the United States (US). In the vote count, Trump surpassed his opponent, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton, the Democratic Party candidate, in the electoral college, with 289 to 218. The US election is highly influential on global politics. US citizens with voting rights determine who will lead the superpower nation.
However, what if other countries could also vote? A survey conducted by The Economist and YouGov in various countries between October 3rd and November 2nd, 2016, asked people to choose a US president: Mr. Trump or Mrs. Clinton. The survey results show that Donald Trump's electability was very low, and they did not want Trump to lead the United States.
On average, 64 percent of the population in these 18 countries chose Hillary Clinton to lead the United States. No more than 11.5 percent chose Donald Trump, and the rest answered "don't know." In Indonesia itself, only 8.9 percent chose Trump; the majority of Indonesian people chose Hillary Clinton, at 62.5 percent, and 28.6 percent answered "don't know."
