The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's economic growth reached 4.94% year-on-year (yoy) in the third quarter of 2023.
This growth figure only increased by 1.60% quarter-to-quarter (qtq) compared to the second quarter of 2023, which recorded 5.17% yoy. The Q3 2023 figure is also lower than Q3 2022, which reached 5.73% (yoy).
BPS stated that this economic growth slowdown was experienced in almost all regions of Indonesia. This is evident from the regional gross domestic product (PDRB) per island.
"The economic growth rate in the third quarter of 2023 compared to the third quarter of 2022 (yoy) experienced a slowdown in almost all regions of Indonesia," said BPS in its report published on Monday (November 6, 2023).

By island, the highest growth occurred in the group of provinces on Maluku and Papua islands, recorded at 9.25% (yoy). This was followed by Sulawesi Island at 6.44%.
Kalimantan and Java Islands both grew by 4.83%. Meanwhile, Sumatra Island grew by 4.50%.
The lowest growth was experienced by Bali and Nusa Tenggara Islands, which grew by 3.43%.
However, the Indonesian economy is still largely contributed by the group of provinces on Java Island, with a contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) of 57.12% (yoy).
This is followed by Sumatra Island with a contribution of 22.16% and Kalimantan Island with 8.08%.
Below Kalimantan is Sulawesi Island with a share of 7.25%. Then Bali and Nusa Tenggara Islands with 2.80% and Maluku and Papua Islands with 2.59%.
