Indonesia's Economy Remains Java-Centric in Q3 2024

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) report, Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices reached Rp5,638.9 trillion in the third quarter of 2024.

At constant prices, the value was Rp3,279.6 trillion, growing by 4.95% year-on-year (yoy) compared to the third quarter of the previous year.

In the third quarter of 2024, Indonesia's economy remained centered on Java Island, which contributed 56.84% to the national GDP.

The next largest contributors were Sumatra Island at 22.30%, followed by Kalimantan at 8.15%, Sulawesi at 7.23%, Bali and Nusa Tenggara at 2.82%, and Maluku and Papua at 2.66%.

Acting Head of BPS, Amalia A. Widyasanti, explained that spatially, the economy continued to grow throughout Indonesia.

Maluku and Papua recorded the highest economic growth rate, at 6% (yoy) in the third quarter of 2024.

"The growth of the Maluku and Papua economy is supported by the manufacturing, trade, and construction industries," said Amalia in a press conference on Tuesday (November 5, 2024).

Economic growth rates in other regions were: Sulawesi at 5.87% (yoy), Bali and Nusa Tenggara at 5.28% (yoy), Kalimantan at 5.20% (yoy), Java at 4.92% (yoy), and Sumatra at 4.48% (yoy).
