Indonesia's Leather and Footwear Industry Exports Increase in June 2024: Here's a Breakdown of the Commodities

A report from Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that the export volume of leather industry goods, leather products, and footwear reached 208.59 million tons from January to June 2024.

This volume increased by 10.69% year-on-year (yoy) compared to the same period last year (January-June 2023), which was 188.43 million tons.

Not only the weight, but also the export value of this industrial group increased. BPS recorded a FOB value of US$3.88 trillion for leather industry goods, leather products, and footwear from January to June 2024, a 1.91% yoy increase from US$3.80 trillion in the same period last year.

Indonesia's most exported item from this industry was athletic shoes, weighing 110.63 million tons from January to June 2024. The volume increased by 7.46% (yoy) from 102.95 million tons previously. Its value contribution was US$2.16 trillion in January-June 2024.

Second most exported was everyday footwear, weighing 52.88 million tons, a surge of 11.91% (yoy) from 47.25 million tons previously.

Third was leather and leather composition goods at 38.49 million tons, jumping 16.77% (yoy) from 32.96 million tons in January-June 2023.

Fourth was industrial/field work shoes at 4.49 million tons in January-June 2024. The volume skyrocketed by 40.03% (yoy) from 3.2 million tons previously.

Fifth was tanned leather, at 2.07 million tons, or a 1.07% (yoy) increase from 2.05 million tons last year.

Sixth was preserved leather, at 7.7 million tons, soaring 113.45% (yoy) from 3.6 million tons last year.

The following is the export volume of leather industry commodities, leather goods, and footwear exported by Indonesia from January to June 2024:

* Athletic shoes: 110,637,000 tons
* Everyday footwear: 52,880,000 tons
* Leather and leather composition goods: 38,493,200 tons
* Industrial/field work shoes: 4,494,100 tons
* Tanned leather: 2,077,200 tons
* Preserved leather: 7,700 tons
* Total industry exports: 208,589,200 tons.
