Kaltara's Household Consumption Shows Highest Growth in Borneo in Q3 2021

Household consumption in North Kalimantan grew the highest on Borneo Island in the third quarter of 2021. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), this component of the regional gross domestic product (PDRB) grew by 3.93% year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 2,514.3 trillion in the last quarter.

The growth in household consumption in North Kalimantan is in line with the increase in several key economic sectors in the province. The mining and quarrying sector grew by 8.67% (yoy), agriculture by 6.84% (yoy), and wholesale and retail trade by 8.33% (yoy).

Central Kalimantan ranked second with household consumption growth of 1.74% (yoy) in the third quarter of 2021. This was followed by East Kalimantan with household consumption growth of 0.12% (yoy).

Household consumption in West Kalimantan grew by 0.06% (yoy). Meanwhile, household consumption in South Kalimantan contracted by 1.01% (yoy).

Compared to the previous quarter (quarter-to-quarter/q-to-q), household consumption in North Kalimantan also grew the highest, at 0.45%. This was followed by household consumption in Central Kalimantan, which grew by 0.14% (q-to-q).

Meanwhile, household consumption in the other three provinces contracted. Specifically, household consumption in West Kalimantan decreased by 0.37% (q-to-q), South Kalimantan by 1.79% (q-to-q), and East Kalimantan by 2.23% (q-to-q).

The economies of the five provinces in Kalimantan grew from July to September 2021. North Kalimantan experienced the highest growth, at 5.42% (yoy). Meanwhile, West Kalimantan had the lowest economic growth, at 3.57% (yoy).
