Top 10 Provinces with the Highest Net Export Contributions to Regional GDP in Q3 2021

Indonesia's economic growth in the third quarter of 2021 was also driven by net exports. Net exports from 34 provinces contributed 4.13% to the Regional Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) in Q3 2021.

This figure increased compared to the previous quarter (3.11%) and the same quarter of the previous year (1.69%).

East Kalimantan (Kaltim) had the largest net export contribution to its RGDP compared to other provinces. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the contribution of net exports to Kaltim's RGDP from the expenditure side reached 49.61% in Q3 2021. This means that almost half of the province's economy was supported by export activities.

This figure was obtained from foreign export components contributing Rp 206.96 trillion (115.56%) minus imports of Rp 118.11 trillion (65.95%). Meanwhile, the contribution of household consumption expenditure to RGDP was only Rp 28.68 trillion (15.98%). For information, Kaltim's RGDP at current prices reached Rp 179.09 trillion in Q3 2021.

The provinces with the next largest net export contributions to RGDP were North Kalimantan at 48.77% in the third quarter of this year, followed by Jambi at 28.73%, Riau at 26.68%, and West Papua at 25.83%.

South Kalimantan also contributed significantly with net exports accounting for 19.45%. This was followed by Central Sulawesi at 11.72%, Riau Islands at 10.92%, and North Sumatra and East Java at 9.89% and 7.7% respectively.
